What skills and experience we're looking for

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic, ambitious, skilled individual to join our very strong leadership team. You will have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with autonomy to deliver ambitious outcomes. You will be an accomplished teacher and skilled leader, passionate about the achievement of all students. You will work with a dedicated team and have access to a wide range of excellent development opportunities through the teaching school, the Trust’s research school and through the links we make with the 32 schools in the Trust. We would encourage and support you to take the NPQH.

Responsibilities will be wide-ranging, reflecting your skillset and interests, but will include the strategic leadership and management of the SEND department and being the school’s named SENDCO. Experience as a SENDCO is not necessarily essential. A substantial package of training and support will be offered to the successful candidate, including the support of an excellent and experienced Assistant SENDCO who will undertake the majority of the practical SENDCO work on a day to day basis. SEND will make up a proportion of this role – other responsibilities will be agreed following appointment and depending on the experience, skills and interests of the successful candidate and will be designed to offer preparation for an aspiring deputy headteacher.

What the school offers its staff

We will offer you:

  • Fantastic students who, with the right expectations and motivation, can and do achieve great things
  • A school at a very exciting stage in its development
  • The opportunity to have an immediate and profound impact on the futures of over a thousand students
  • Excellent support to help you develop and progress in your career

We benefit from excellent facilities. We have recently entered into an exciting partnership with Westfield Primary Academy, located on a site adjacent to SWA, with a view to providing students in the two schools with a continuous, coherent journey from Early Years to A-Level.

Commitment to safeguarding

Unity Schools Partnership is committed to safer recruitment, equal opportunities, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. An enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check will be required.
