As Assistant Headteacher & SENDCO, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our school’s strategic direction—particularly in ensuring high-quality education, care, and personalised support for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Working closely with the Headteacher, SLT, parents, external agencies and our wider trust (ELAN), you will lead SEND provision, strengthen safeguarding practice as a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), and ensure all learners experience success.

This role brings genuine leadership responsibility, including deputising for the Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher when required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and implement the school’s SEND strategy and provision.
  • Monitor teaching quality, pupil progress, and achievement across the school.
  • Provide professional guidance and high-impact professional development (PD) to staff.
  • Oversee SEND records and ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Work proactively with children, families, colleagues, and external professionals.
  • Respond to safeguarding concerns as a DSL and promote a strong safeguarding culture.
  • Take responsibility for the school in the absence of senior leaders.
  • Collaborate across ELAN and wider networks to improve outcomes for young people.
