What skills and experience we're looking for

Our school is looking for an experienced, passionate educator to fill the full-time role of Assistant Headteacher (AHT) leading on the day to day operational running of The Bridge Campus. The Bridge Campus is a 65 place AP provision that serves students across Key stage 3 and 4. This is a challenging but very rewarding role supporting some of the most vulnerable students in city of Portsmouth. You will be collaborating with a team of teachers, pupil support workers, and parents to ensure that our students receive an excellent education.

Key responsibilities include (but not exclusive too) managing the day to day operational aspects of the campus, ensuring that students are well supported to exceed their potential across the subject areas, liaising with a range key stakeholders and multi-agency professionals as required and supporting teachers and pupil support workers in their various roles.

To be successful as the AHT, you should be someone with a deep understanding of what it takes to teach and lead students effectively. Top candidates will be excellent leaders and mentors, able to use their knowledge and skills to raise fellow teachers up and make lasting improvements to the school's educational processes. The ability to make the role your own and build strong relationships is essential.

What the school offers its staff

We are a multi-site organisation which includes our Lighthouse Campus, Vista Campus, Bay Campus and Bridge campus all based within the city of Portsmouth. We also have an Outreach Support Team, a Reintegration and Tuition service and Hospital tuition service at the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth.

The Harbour School is an AP and SEMH school for students in Portsmouth. Our students range from year 5 up to year 11. We support students that have an EHCP for SEMH, those recovering from the trauma of permanent exclusion, those that unintentionally exclude themselves from education and children who cannot access school for medical reasons. At the Harbour school, we believe in a therapeutic and trauma-informed approach to understanding behaviours in and out of the classroom. We believe in educational equity for all learners.

As a trust, our ethos is encompassed in our vision “Learning together in pursuit of happiness”. We put this into practice by ensuring:

  • All decisions are made in the best interests of staff, students and families.
  • High support, high challenge and evidence informed in everything we do.
  • We work collaboratively and make team, not individual, decisions.
  • We acknowledge our mistakes and use them to learn and improve.

We are always open to learning and seeking new ideas.
