What skills and experience we're looking for
- Professional CIPD membership (Associate) and Level 5 qualification or currently studying towards.
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
- HR professional with some experience in either a generalist of specialist environment, including operational exposure to application of employment law, case management and organisational change management.
- Experience of advising and influencing managers on matters of HR operations.
- Evidence of working and delivered on HR projects large and small with key deliverables.
- Evidence of running training sessions and presentations to upskill on HR matters or procedures.
- Good management skills, acting positively, flexibly, and constructively, bringing energy and focus to the work.
- Ability to advise colleagues on HR issues using strong communication, influencing and negotiation skills.
- Ability to analyse problems at an operational level, identify root cause and develop a range of creative and solutions that will add value.
- Ability to focus on customers, being innovative and creative, open to ideas and challenge and committed to individual learning and development.
- Strong organisational and project management skills with ability to manage large and/or complex projects.
- Ability to take responsibility for planning own work, consistently achieving and delivering to time and quality despite tight timescales and conflicting priorities.
- Good written and verbal communication skills and ability to successfully present information verbally through use of formal presentation tools.
- Excellent IT skills, including the ability to use MS Office software packages such as Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams
- Be a strong team player
- Highest levels of integrity and probity and a commitment to highest levels of effort, endeavour and focus on standards
- Be able to travel to meetings across Anglian Learning Trust Schools

The Assistant HR Business Partner supports the delivery of a proactive, professional, and customer-focused HR service across the Trust, helping to implement the Trust’s people strategy in line with school priorities and organisational objectives. Working closely with HR Business Partners, Principals, Head Teachers, and Senior Leadership Teams, the postholder will provide high-quality HR advice and operational support across a wide range of employee relations and workforce matters.
The role is responsible for managing a varied HR caseload, supporting organisational change initiatives, and contributing to projects that enhance workforce effectiveness and employee experience. This includes assisting with restructures, TUPE transfers, recruitment and resourcing activity, policy implementation, and ensuring compliance with employment legislation and Trust procedures.
The Assistant HR Business Partner will also support the development and coordination of HR processes, policies, and management information to drive continuous improvement and informed decision-making. In addition, the role provides guidance and day-to-day support to HR Assistants to ensure the delivery of consistent and high-quality HR services across Trust schools and areas.
Through strong relationship management, sound HR knowledge, and a collaborative approach, the postholder will play an important role in supporting leaders to build an engaged, high-performing workforce that contributes to positive outcomes for pupils, staff, and the wider Trust community.
