What skills and experience we're looking for

Pastoral Systems & Structures

  • Line manage Heads of Year / Pastoral Leads.
  • Ensure consistency in tutor time and pastoral programmes.
  • Oversee rewards and sanctions systems.

Behaviour

  • Lead the strategic development and consistent implementation of the school’s behaviour policy.
  • Promote a culture of high expectations, respect, and responsibility among students and staff.
  • Oversee systems for behaviour monitoring, analysis, and intervention, ensuring data informs improvement.
  • Support staff in applying effective classroom management strategies through training, coaching, and modelling.
  • Lead on restorative approaches and behaviour support plans for students with additional needs.
  • Work with parents, carers, and external agencies to support positive student outcomes

Personal Development

  • Design and lead a comprehensive personal development programme that supports students’ social, moral, spiritual, and cultural growth.
  • Oversee delivery of PSHE, RSE, and careers education across the curriculum.
  • Champion inclusion, diversity, and wellbeing initiatives throughout the school.
  • Promote British Values and global citizenship within all aspects of school life.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of personal development provision through student voice and data analysis.

Enrichment and Extra-Curricular Activities

  • Lead the school’s enrichment strategy to ensure all students access a broad and balanced range of extra-curricular opportunities.
  • Coordinate and promote clubs, trips, competitions, and events that develop students’ skills, confidence, and cultural capital.
  • Develop partnerships with external organisations and community groups to enhance enrichment provision.
  • Monitor participation and ensure equality of access for all student groups.

Student Leadership • Develop and oversee a coherent student leadership framework across all year groups.

  • Support and mentor the student leadership team, including prefects, ambassadors, and council representatives.
  • Empower students to take active roles in shaping school culture, community projects, and peer mentoring.
  • Celebrate and promote student leadership achievements within the school and wider community.

Strategic Leadership and Management

  • Contribute to the overall leadership and strategic direction of the school as a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT).
  • Line manage middle leaders including Heads of Year and the Careers lead.
  • Support whole-school self-evaluation, improvement planning, and inspection readiness in relevant areas.
  • Lead assemblies, parent events, and staff briefings as required.
  • Deputise for senior colleagues when necessary.
