Attendance Officer job summary

We are seeking a committed and proactive Attendance Officer to join our supportive team and play a key role in ensuring every scholar has the best opportunity to thrive.

This is an exciting opportunity for an organised and relationship-focused professional who is passionate about removing barriers to education and making a tangible difference to young people's lives. Working closely with scholars, families and colleagues, you will help drive improvements in attendance and punctuality, supporting our academy's ambition to achieve the highest standards for every child.

As Attendance Officer, you will monitor attendance patterns, investigate persistent absence, engage with families, conduct home visits where required and maintain accurate records and reporting systems. You will work collaboratively with academy leaders, pastoral teams and safeguarding colleagues to ensure that attendance concerns are identified and addressed swiftly and effectively.

We are looking for someone who combines excellent administrative skills with strong interpersonal abilities. You will be confident communicating with a wide range of stakeholders, able to manage competing priorities and committed to maintaining high standards of professionalism, safeguarding and care.

About You
We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working with children and young people, or within an attendance, pastoral, welfare or administrative role.
  • Has excellent communication skills and can build positive, professional relationships with scholars, parents/carers and colleagues.
  • Is confident and resilient when having challenging conversations around attendance and punctuality.
  • Has strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and maintain accurate records.
  • Is comfortable analysing and interpreting attendance data to identify trends and target support effectively.
  • Can work collaboratively with academy staff, families and external agencies to improve attendance outcomes.
  • Demonstrates a proactive, solution-focused approach and is committed to removing barriers to learning.
  • Has strong IT skills and experience using Microsoft Office applications and management information systems.
  • Shares our commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and ensuring every young person has the opportunity to succeed.
  • Holds a full UK driving licence and is willing to undertake home visits where appropriate.
