Behaviour for learning leader and Safefuarding job summary

At Willow Tree Academy the work of The Behaviour for Learning Leader role will focus on policies, procedures and strategies to:

  • Improve engagement, learning and raise attainment

  • RP Strategy

  • Improve attendance

  • Raise standards of behaviour through ensuring the implementation of the positive behaviour policy

  • Supporting staff to work with parents and carers to engage them in their child’s learning

  • Support pupils who have experienced exclusion

  • Support pupils who are subject to child protection planning

  • Engage with outside agencies

    The Behaviour for Learning Leader will work directly with identified individuals or groups of pupils to help overcome barriers to learning, improve behaviour and raise achievement. This may be delegated to their assistant or facilitated through nurture provision, depending on workload. It is expected that all B4L Leaders will proactively engage with pupils.

    SEND and SEMH

    • The Behaviour for Learning Leader will liaise with parents, appropriate agencies and the wider school community to support all concerned and be the first point of contact for parents/carers other than class teacher.

      • To facilitate appropriate communication between parents/carers and class teachers.

      • Offer support and signpost parents/carers where appropriate.

      • Oversee and facilitate family learning within school.

      • Promote parent/carer engagement with school being visible at parents’ evenings and school events

      • Be aware of, and support difference, ensuring all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop.

      • To disseminate knowledge to staff of specialist areas such as attachment, autism etc.

      • The Behaviour for Learning Leader will liaise with the SLT and in particular, with the SENDCO to develop the SEMH strategy across the academy.

      • The Behaviour for Learning Leader will work with all professionals to gather evidence for Education, Health and Care Plans.

      • The Behaviour for Learning Leader will work with the EHT/Head teacher to ensure that all incidents are recorded and actioned on CPOMs.

      • The Behaviour for Learning Leader will track vulnerable children using available tools to do this such as; the hierarchy of need, attendance matrix, attainment and progress data and provision mapping.

      • The Behaviour for Learning Leader will establish productive working relationships with all pupils and staff, promoting the well-being of all together with the EHT/HT and the Trust Board.

      Child Protection and Safeguarding

      • The Behaviour for Learning Leader will attend case conferences and core group meetings on behalf of the EHT/HT and will represent the Designated Safeguarding Lead both in and out of school.

      • The Behaviour for Learning Leader will prepare reports for the above and ensure that actions from such meetings are reported in a timely manner.

      • The Behaviour for Learning Leader will record and upload all reports and incidents pertaining to vulnerable children onto CPOMS.

      • To support the development of safeguarding policies, training, procedures and guidance and ensure annual review by the Trust Board.

      • To encourage good practice by promoting and championing the Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy and procedures and disseminating training to staff accordingly.

      • To make/coordinate referrals, action concerns and review services for children and families within school. (Early Help/ Social Care etc)

      • To work collaboratively with parents/carers and other agencies through joint planning, training and monitoring for safeguarding of all children.

      • To be the first point of contact (other than EHT/Head teacher) for all staff, visitors, parents/carers, children regarding safeguarding concerns.

      • Meet and greet pupils and parents, addressing any immediate concerns

      • To maintain an audit of safeguarding within school and provide reports to senior leadership and the Trust Board.

      • To maintain an up to date, accurate recording system for safeguarding - CPOMS

      • To encourage a culture of listening to children, taking into account their wishes and feelings.

      • Produce reports for, attend and participate in Child Protection Conferences, Child In Need and Review Meetings.

      • Where appropriate to act as lead professional and co-ordinate Team Around Family (TAF) meetings.

      • Monitor health and safety within school reporting any issues to the relevant individual e.g. types and frequency of accidents.

      • Keep up to date with developments by attending the Safeguarding Forum, courses to enhance your own CPD and update staff.

      • Facilitate the smooth transition of all pupils into our school and to other settings, such as secondary and special.

      Looked after Children

      • To be the designated individual within school regarding Looked after Children (LAC).

      • To liaise with the parent/carer, Local Authority, Virtual School and school staff regarding LAC.

      • To facilitate PEP meetings and provide the relevant information including pupil voice.

      • To provide 1:1 support to LAC within school where required.

      • To work closely with class teachers to highlight individual needs, barriers to learning and actions required.

      • Suggest appropriate use of Pupil Premium for LAC.

      • Report to the Trust Board about the care and achievement of these children.

      Behaviour and the Playground

      • The Behaviour for Learning Leader will ensure the Positive Behaviour Policy is in place and adhered to by all staff.

      • The Behaviour for Learning Leader will ensure the principles of a Positive Playground are in place.

      • The Behaviour for Learning Leader will lead the School Council.

        • To support teaching staff in managing pupil behaviour.

        • To liaise with outside providers regarding the requirements regarding behaviour.

        • To develop and maintain a register of children with additional needs and share with appropriate staff.

        • To assist individual pupils experiencing difficulties in managing their behaviour, SEMH difficulties through 1:1 or group work.

        • Liaise with staff to develop an understanding of individual pupil needs.

        • To coordinate paperwork for exclusions/reduced timetables / individualised timetables.

        • To line-manage SMSAs and develop lunchtime initiatives to promote good behaviour.

        • To develop playground break-time opportunities promoting positive play.

        • Challenge and motivate children, promoting self-esteem and self-regulation.

        • Facilitate the golden table and celebrate core values such as respect.

        • Support parents/carers with regards to promoting positive behaviour at home/school.

        • Work with the SENDCO to develop and implement behaviour plans.

        • Develop, maintain, evaluate and report on behaviour management systems eg; class Dojo.

        • Have an overview of missed breaks, maintaining accurate records and following the pathway for letters to parents.

        • Co-ordinate the school house system and allocate key roles within them

        • Coordinate extra-curricular clubs, inc. breakfast club.

        • Lead the school council, elections and meetings, following the core British Values.

        Other duties

        • To write, review relevant school policies and procedures and keep appropriate records.

        • To carry out activities to promote emotional health and wellbeing within school together with the Healthy Schools Leader

        • To be present on educational visits as and when required.

        • Facilitate the organisation and running of the Christmas and Summer fayres.

JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Lunchtime Play leader
Responsible to: Behaviour for Learning Leader/Head of School.
Responsible for: Promoting positive play and encouraging friendships.
Main Job Purpose : Encourage and develop safe, purposeful and creative play during the lunchtime break which supports the aims and values of the school and enriches the pupils’ learning.
Main Responsibilities:
Work as part of the lunchtime team and specifically with other Play leaders.
Work with the Behaviour for Learning Leader and others to develop play awareness and opportunities.
Engage children in purposeful play and fitness activities.
Teach play skills and specific games and activities.
Help support children with their personal, social and emotional development needs.
Monitor the behaviour of children at all times in conjunction with the school’s policy on discipline and behaviour and Rights’ Respecting Agenda. Refer to a senior member of staff where necessary.
To be aware of and ensure that the school’s restorative practice policy is followed.
Supporting the school’s first aid procedures by reporting any and every accident/injury to the identified First Aider, who will record the incident.
Ensure that pupils do not leave school without permission.
Support the school’s security procedures by challenging anyone on the premises without a school visitor ID badge and ensuring that the school office is informed.
Support the school’s fire and emergency procedures by being familiar with the instructions for staff and children located in all the teaching areas and taking appropriate action should the need arise.

Resources. The Play leader may use a number of educational toys and equipment.
