What skills and experience we're looking for
We are looking for a positive and proactive individual to oversee and coordinate our focus room (internal suspension), promoting a forward-thinking approach and making a significant contribution to minimising student poor behaviour. You will also lead on management of detentions and behaviour data reporting. This role will support leaders in the coordination of student and pastoral support plans. The right candidate will embody our warm and strict approach to building excellent relationships across the school.
You will be joining a very successful pastoral team, and you must have excellent interpersonal and organisational skills as well as a positive attitude to working with young people and experience of working as part of a team.
In this role, you will work 36 hours per week (Monday to Thursday, 8.00 am to 3.45 pm; Friday, 8.00 am to 3.30 pm), term time plus one week (38.6 weeks).
If you share our vision based on the unshakeable belief that children learn through all aspects of their daily lives and that their values and knowledge, experiences and habits are as important as their academic qualifications, we would be delighted to hear from you.
What the school offers its staff
We work hard to make all staff feel like they belong and can flourish. We create a bespoke induction plan for all new staff, shaped with their input and based on their experience, strengths and aims. All teachers get an additional hour every fortnight of protected PPA, totalling 6 hours for a full-time teacher. We have a culture of 1% improvements, which means no hour-long lesson observations and time wasted producing unnecessary paperwork. All staff love our two-week October half-term and have access to free gym use (with shower facilities), ample on-site parking, an up-to-date 2-in-1 laptop (tablet with pen and laptop all in one), a full Microsoft Office package and a vibrant and social staff body.
Further details about the role
If you would like an informal phone call or a visit to the school with the Headteacher, we welcome and value this. To arrange, please contact head@esherhigh.surrey.sch.uk. Visits will be possible on 22 and 29 August 2024 or in the first week of September on the return to school.
Commitment to safeguarding
Shortlisted candidates will be asked to complete a self-declaration of their criminal record or information that would make them unsuitable to work with children. This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. Please refer to the school website for further information regarding our Child Protection & Safeguarding policy. Any successful applicants will be required to undertake an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service.
