Abbey Hill Academy & College, an all-through special academy catering for children with a diverse range of needs, is seeking to appoint a dynamic and highly motivated Behaviour Support Service Manager to join our team.
Job Purpose
To lead and manage the Academy’s specialist Behaviour Support Service, ensuring effective case management, coordination of resources, and the implementation of high-impact interventions across all phases.
The postholder will provide direct support to pupils presenting with challenging behaviour, while also building staff capacity through coaching, training, and strategic leadership. Working in close partnership with families, carers, and external agencies, the role seeks to empower pupils to make informed choices, overcome behavioural barriers to learning, and achieve their full potential.
Key Duties / Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership and Management
- Lead, develop, and evaluate Academy wide strategies to improve behaviour and promote positive relationships
- Provide professional advice and challenge to senior leaders on behaviour, inclusion, and pupil wellbeing
- Contribute to the development and implementation of Academy improvement plans related to behaviour
- Lead and facilitate school improvement priorities linked to behaviour
- Line manage and support behaviour mentors and other support staff, ensuring effective deployment, supervision, and professional development
Pupil Support and Casework
- Undertake assessment of individual pupil needs, identifying barriers to learning and behaviour
- Manage a caseload of pupils with identified behavioural or emotional needs, setting clear, measurable targets
- Plan, deliver, and evaluate targeted interventions and activities for pupils — including one-to-one, small group, and whole-class support
- Empower pupils to make informed choices, develop self-regulation skills, and take responsibility for their actions
- Support the reintegration of pupils following exclusion or alternative provision placements, helping to prevent future incidents
- Monitor and evaluate pupil progress through assessment, reporting, and regular reviews of individual behaviour plans
Family and Multi-Agency Working
- Work closely with parents and carers to build strong partnerships that reinforce positive behaviour and engagement
- Carry out home visits, where appropriate, to address persistent behaviour concerns or support reintegration
- Liaise with external agencies and education/training providers to identify appropriate support and alternative learning opportunities
- Maintain accurate and confidential case records, ensuring all communication with families and professionals is logged and reviewed
Staff Development and Support
- Provide guidance, coaching, and support to staff in implementing effective behaviour management strategies
- Deliver professional development and training sessions for staff on topics such as de-escalation, restorative practice, and trauma-informed approaches
- Support staff in the use and review of individual behaviour plans and strategies within the classroom
- Promote a consistent, restorative, and inclusive culture across the Academy
Monitoring and Evaluation
- Track and analyse data on behaviour, suspensions/exclusions, and interventions to identify trends and inform strategic planning
- Produce reports for senior leaders and governors on pupil progress and intervention impact
- Evaluate the effectiveness of behaviour initiatives, identifying areas for improvement and sharing best practice
Safeguarding and Welfare
- Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people within the Academy, raising any concerns in line with safeguarding and child protection procedures
- Ensure all practice complies with relevant legislation, statutory guidance, and Academy policies
