What skills and experience we're looking for

We wish to appoint a committed and caring Breakfast and After School Club Assistant to join our outstanding staff team. Our before and after school childcare provision, ‘Peas in the Pod’ has become so popular that we now need more Breakfast and After School Club Assistants to join our team. We are currently advertising for an After School Club Assistant to work from 15:05-18:00 Monday to Friday, but please note that further shifts might become available in the morning 07:25-08:40. Furthermore, we would be willing to appoint as a job share, if we receive applicants that wish to work less than 5 days a week.

We offer wraparound childcare from mornings and evenings, five days a week, term time only, and the successful applicants will be responsible for carrying out all duties involved in delivering the clubs to the children, under the direction of the senior staff. Duties will include serving snacks and/or light meals, setting up and running activities, clearing away at the end of the session and communicating with parents, carers and other school staff to ensure the smooth running of the club.

The successful candidate will be required to carry out the main duties outlined in the separate job description. Furthermore, we wish to appoint someone who:

Job Description/Main duties:

To ensure that the health and safety needs of each individual child are met at all times.

To stimulate, encourage and develop children’s play in a positive way, both indoors and outdoors, enabling them to play appropriately and creatively, individually or in groups.

To foster children’s language development and social skills through sustained shared thinking and the use of open ended questioning.

Acknowledge and note individual children’s progress and development and be able to share this with parents and relevant school staff. Report any issues of concern regarding an individual child to relevant school staff as soon as possible.

Attend to the personal, social and emotional needs of individual children, together with any other special requirements and, depending on the nature of a pupil’s special needs, make these part of the play experience wherever possible.

Foster an atmosphere of mutual respect and demonstrate the behavioural, equal opportunities and anti-racist policies of the school/centre effectively at all times by challenging inappropriate behaviour/language.

To support colleagues in all aspects of running the club, including planning and resourcing activities, managing changes to rotas between colleagues and setting up/packing away equipment. To liaise with the School Office regarding sessions booked by parents.

To prepare/serve food and drinks as necessary.
