Responsible to: Head of Sixth Form

Contract: Permanent (Term time plus 5 days)

Hrs/wk: 38.25 hours per week

Person Specification

Hold a relevant Careers Guidance and Development qualification

Experience of leading or managing careers education

A strong desire to work with young people in a support role

Effective communication and interpersonal skills with adults and young people

Able to work under pressure and use own initiative

Competent in using ICT

Active interest in young people, education and positive outcomes for young people

Good literacy and numeracy. Maths and English Grade 5 or equivalent

Committed to the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare of young people in line with the academy safeguarding policies and procedures

Self-motivated and able to work with minimum supervision

Tasks and duties

Responsibilities:

Leadership

Prepare and implement a careers guidance development plan

Review and evaluate careers guidance and provide information for school improvement planning, Ofsted and other purposes

Report on guidance to senior leaders and governors

Understand the impacts of changing education landscapes for careers guidance

Ensure compliance with the school’s legal requirements to provide independent careers guidance and publish the relevant information on the academy website

Ensure compliance with all government requirements

Coordination of our annual careers day

Management

Plan the programme of activity in careers guidance

Brief and support staff members involved in careers guidance or who provide initial careers information.

Monitor the delivery of careers guidance across the 8 Gatsby Benchmarks

Monitor the completion of Compass+ and evaluate the academy’s careers programme each term by completing the evaluation in Compass+

Co-ordination

Manage the careers page on the academy website, ensuring that information is accurate and up to date

Work with the senior leadership team and staff to deliver the academy’s careers programme

Manage the provision of career and labour market information

Liaise with tutors and Heads of year in relation to the referral of students to the academy’s independent careers adviser and/or the local authority

Communicate with pupils and parents via Unifrog

Attend parents’ evenings, information and Open Evenings

Engage with faculty leads and relevant subject leaders to plan their contribution to the careers programme and the integration of careers both within the curriculum and extra-curricular events.

Networking

Establish and develop links with further education colleges, apprenticeship providers, Technical colleges and higher education institutions

Establish and develop links with employers and providers of work experience and/or workplace visits

Work with external organisations and external careers guidance services where appropriate

Liaise with careers leaders in other schools and share best practice

Secure funding for careers-related projects when available

Maintain and grow a network of alumni who can help with the academy’s careers programme

Safeguarding

Work in line with statutory safeguarding guidance (eg Keeping Children Safe in Education, the Prevent duty guidance) and the academy’s safeguarding and child protection policies

Work with the designated safeguarding lead to promote the best interests of pupils, including sharing concerns where necessary

Promote the safeguarding of all students in the academy

Landau Forte Academy QEMS & Tamworth Sixth Form

Landau Forte Academy QEMS joined the Landau Forte Charitable Trust in September 2011 and delivers education to 11-16 year olds. Landau Forte Academy Sixth Form is a purpose-built establishment providing Level 3 courses, both Advanced Level and Applied qualifications, for the whole of Tamworth and beyond.

The academies are located on a shared campus, but both operate from their own facilities. Both QEMS and Tamworth Sixth Form are oversubscribed. Tamworth Sixth Form has over 450 students studying courses on site.

Within a 20 minute drive from the town, you can find yourself in the beautiful, open Staffordshire countryside or Birmingham‘s bustling city centre.
