Are you a proactive, hands-on individual who takes pride in keeping environments safe, welcoming, and well-maintained?

Co-op Acasemy Brierley is looking for a dedicated Caretaker / Site & Premises Assistant to join our team. As a vital member of our school community, you will play a key role in ensuring our site is secure, efficient, and inspiring for students, staff, and visitors every day. Co-op Academy Brierley is a Specialist School supporting puils aged 4 to 16 years located in Cross Green, Leeds, managed by the Co-operative Academies Trust

Whether you are performing minor repairs, coordinating with contractors, or preparing spaces for school events, your work will directly support our mission to provide a safe, high-quality learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Site Security & Access: Act as a designated key holder providing daily locking/unlocking of buildings and gates, emergency access, and monitoring security systems (including CCTV and alarms).
  • Maintenance & Minor Repairs: Proactively carry out minor building repairs, preventative maintenance (e.g., heating pump lubrication), and routine site upkeep using your own initiative.
  • Health, Safety & Compliance: Conduct daily safety checks, record updates on the Parago in-house system, ensure COSHH compliance, and lead routine fire testing.
  • Facilities & Event Support: Assist with event and exam setups, manage lettings cover (including occasional Saturday work), oversee waste collection, and ensure restock of daily consumables.
  • Contractor & Supply Management: Serve as the primary site contact for visiting contractors, monitor site work, and receive deliveries.
  • Driving & Community Engagement: Occasional driving duties to assist with school trips and events, alongside liaising with third-party letting agencies out of hours.

  • What We Are Looking For

  • Experience: Practical background in premises management, caretaking, maintenance, or trade-related roles.
  • Technical & Safety Knowledge: Solid understanding of Health & Safety legislation, COSHH guidelines, and confidence using digital systems (such as Parago or similar management software).
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Self-motivated with the initiative to identify hazards, undertake repairs, and resolve issues independently.
  • Communication & Teamwork: Strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with staff, contractors, and letting agencies.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to support out-of-hours lettings, emergency call-outs, and occasional driving duties (a full UK driving licence is highly desirable).

  • The above list is not exhaustive or exclusive. The role requires the post holder to be professional, cooperative and flexible in line with business needs of the school. The post holder is required to undertake additional such duties as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading for the post.
