The Bedfordshire Schools Trust (BEST) is a multi-academy trust providing exceptional education across our community of 11 schools and five nurseries. Since forming in 2016, we have grown significantly into one of the largest single employers in Central Bedfordshire. We now educate more than 6,000 children across the area, from nursery age to advanced level study. It is our aim to grow the BEST in everyone, and everything we do is driven by our values, but our aims can only be achieved if we recruit, retain and develop the highest quality workforce – and we want those we employ to be valued in the workplace. The formative years of BEST have been a real success story – and we are looking forward to an exciting future, too.

We are looking to recruit reliable, organised and confident individuals to join our welcoming team of Invigilators as Lead Exam Invigilators. The Lead Exam Invigilator is the person in the examination room responsible for conducting an examination session in the presence of candidates and fellow Invigilators.

The Lead Exam Invigilator will be expected to assist the Examinations Officer and is responsible for the setting up of the exam venue by laying out exam question papers, answer books and any other materials as required. You will be expected to organise and support other Invigilators and supervise the exam from beginning to end. As a Lead Exam Invigilator, you will be required to read out the examination room rules and make any other announcements to candidates as necessary, deal with any emergencies such as fire evacuation whilst ensuring all appropriate examination conditions are maintained.

We expect our Lead Exam Invigilators to be available for a significant number of sessions throughout the exam calendar.

If you have had previous experience of working as an Exam Invigilator or in an educational environment, we would love to hear from you!

PLEASE NOTE THAT FOR YOUR APPLICATION TO BE CONSIDERED YOU WILL NEED TO CONFIRM WITHIN YOUR PERSONAL STATEMENT THAT YOU ARE AVAILABLE FOR TRAINING ON THE 25TH OCTOBER 2024.

This role will involve working closely with the pupils at Samuel Whitbread Academy and you will be engaging in regulated activity with children.

CLOSING DATE: Midnight, Sunday 16th March 2025

INTERVIEW DATE: Tuesday 18th March 2025 (this is the only interview date available)

Samuel Whitbread Academy

We offer an exceptional academic and extracurricular experience at Samuel Whitbread Academy in an outstanding learning environment where students are expected to work hard and achieve their best.

In our last Ofsted inspection, we were judged as ‘Good’ with many outstanding features and over the next three years we have set ourselves the target of being Outstanding!

Our GCSE results are amongst the best in the Local Authority. We offer a well-balanced curriculum with plenty of choice to prepare our students for the next stage in their lives. Most of our students continue on to the Sixth Form, which is one of the largest and highest performing in the area - providing students with a huge range of courses designed to match the expectations of universities and employers.

Our pastoral care is exceptional and we have dedicated pastoral support teams for each Year Group. The Academy is also broken down into five houses, named after people who have made a distinctive contribution to our community. These provide the framework for the multitude of different competitions, celebrations and charity events that bring our school community together during the year.

Extra-curricular opportunity is a vital part of our ethos and we expect all of our students to get involved in at least one club or activity. There are a huge number of opportunities ranging from highly competitive sports teams to spectacular drama and musical performances.

We enjoy showing visitors around the school so please take the opportunity to come and see us during the school day, so you can see Samuel Whitbread Academy in action and we can answer any questions you may have.

We look forward to hearing from you soon.
