Catering Assistant job summary

The Catering Assistant plays a key role in ensuring pupils have a safe, positive and enjoyable lunchtime experience.


This is a varied and active role which combines food service, dining hall preparation, cleaning duties and pupil supervision. The successful candidate will help prepare the dining hall for service, support the serving of meals, maintain high standards of food hygiene and cleanliness, and assist with the supervision and wellbeing of pupils throughout the lunchtime period.


You will work effectively as part of the support staff team, build positive relationships with pupils and adults, and help create a welcoming lunchtime environment for all children. You will be aware of dietary requirements and medical needs and will support pupils appropriately


To excel in this role, you will need 

  • basic knowledge of food safety and hygiene, training will be provided.
  • an understanding of health and safety practices
  • the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • experience in a catering environment and working with children which is desirable.
  • a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children which is essential.
