Catering Assistant job summary
Chilcote Primary School is seeking to appoint a reliable, enthusiastic and hardworking Catering Assistant to join our friendly kitchen team. This role supports the delivery of a high‑quality catering service that provides nutritious meals for our pupils every day.
You will work as part of a committed team to assist with food preparation, serving meals, maintaining excellent hygiene standards, and ensuring that both the kitchen and dining areas are kept clean, safe and welcoming.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience in food preparation, serving and/or kitchen cleaning duties
- Holds a Level 2 Food Hygiene qualification or equivalent experience
- Works efficiently, follows routines and completes tasks to a high standard
- Communicates clearly and engages positively with pupils, staff and visitors
- Can work independently and as part of a team
- Is flexible, reliable and calm under pressure
- Meets the requirement to speak an appropriate standard of spoken English (Part 7, Immigration Act 2016).
Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting with preparing food and drinks for pupils and staff
- Serving meals and refreshments in a friendly and professional manner
- Setting up and clearing the dining hall, including safe movement of furniture
- Maintaining high standards of cleanliness across the kitchen and dining areas
- Washing up, cleaning equipment, sweeping and mopping
- Checking and storing deliveries safely
- Supporting catering for school events when required
- Following food hygiene standards and Health & Safety regulations at all times.
