Catering Assistant job summary
We are seeking a friendly, reliable and enthusiastic Catering Assistant to join our dedicated school catering team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with children, takes pride in providing a quality service, and wants to contribute to a positive school environment.
Working under the direction of the Head of Kitchen, you will support the preparation and serving of nutritious school meals while helping to maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene and customer care.
As a Catering Assistant, your responsibilities will include:- Preparing and cooking simple food items, including sandwiches, salads, snacks and desserts.
- Assisting with food service and meal distribution.
- Maintaining clean and safe kitchen, dining and storage areas.
- Washing up and cleaning equipment and surfaces.
- Setting up dining areas and assisting with dining room duties.
- Providing a welcoming and courteous service to pupils, staff and visitors.
- Supporting food safety, hygiene and health and safety procedures.
- Assisting with stock checks, deliveries and kitchen administration duties when required.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has basic literacy and numeracy skills.
- Holds a Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate or is willing to obtain one within three months of appointment.
- Can work effectively to deadlines and follow instructions.
- Has excellent customer service skills and enjoys working with people.
- Works well as part of a team and communicates effectively with colleagues.
- Is flexible, dependable and willing to undertake training and professional development.
- Shares our commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Previous catering experience within a catering environment is desirable but not essential.
