Catering Manager job summary

Contract

Permanent, Monday-Friday, Term Time Only, 30 hours per week, plus 5 INSET day

Key Responsibilities

Catering Operations

Prepare and present food in accordance with statutory regulations and school standards.

Maintain high standards of food hygiene and comply with all relevant legislation, including Natasha’s Law.

Ensure compliance with allergen requirements and maintain accurate allergen data sheets.

Plan and implement nutritionally balanced menus, regularly reviewed and adjusted based on feedback and budget constraints.

Oversee ordering, delivery checks, and proper storage of food supplies.

Ensure portion control and recipe specifications are followed.

Service Delivery

Ensure timely service of meals, breaks, and special functions.

Implement theme days and promotional events as directed.

Act on feedback to improve food quality and service delivery.

Communication & Reporting

Maintain ongoing communication with the School Business Manager and Headteacher.

Regularly monitor student and staff satisfaction.

Conduct team briefings and communicate key updates to catering staff.

Report staff absences promptly.

Team Leadership

Support recruitment, onboarding, and development of catering staff.

Monitor staff performance and provide necessary training.

Uphold discipline according to school policy.

Health & Safety

Ensure adherence to cleaning schedules and report any hazards or unfit food items.

Collaborate with leadership to comply with school health and safety standards, including maintaining COSHH documentation.

Maintain cleanliness and safety of all kitchen equipment and supplies.

Stock & Budget Management

Maintain stock rotation and accurate inventory.

Ensure all supplies are sourced from approved vendors.

Monitor catering service operations to stay within the agreed budget.

Recommend and implement cost-saving improvements.

Other Duties

Organise and support school events, occasionally outside normal hours.

Promote and market the school’s catering services effectively.
