Charmouth Primary - SEMH Teaching Assistant, 16 hrs per week job summary

Charmouth Primary School and Nursery in West Dorset is situated on the beautiful Jurassic Coast in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This modern, purpose-built school lies in the heart of the traditional seaside village, only a stone’s throw from the beach where the school extends its learning with outdoor activities including rock pooling, art, beach cleans and more.

The school provides for children from the age of three, offering a friendly, safe and nurturing environment with excellent connections with the local community. Based on the edge of west Dorset and East Devon, the school can be reached from Exeter, Taunton and Weymouth.

We are seeking to appoint an experienced Teaching Assistant to work 5 mornings a week 8:40am - 12:00pm. This is a temporary position to start as soon as possible.The role will run until the summer term initially.

As an experienced Teaching Assistant, we expect you to be enthusiastic, flexible and highly motivated individual who can demonstrate effective working alongside the class teacher across all areas of the curriculum.

  • To promote inclusion through the development of social skills, language and emotional well-being.
  • To liaise with other professionals both within and outside the school.
  • To show a high degree of initiative and be able to react to given situations with integrity and compassion.

Desirable characteristics:

  • experience in working with children with SEMH
  • experience supporting children with language delay and social communication difficulties
  • experience supporting children with behavioural difficulties

This role is offered on a fixed term basis linked to funding.

You should have a good standard of general education, specifically good numeracy and literacy skills. You will be able to communicate effectively with children and adults, have a flexible attitude and can-do approach. The successful candidate will be friendly and approachable, with a good sense of humour.
