What skills and experience we're looking for

Monkspath School is a welcoming, inclusive primary school where children are known, valued and supported to thrive. We are seeking a dedicated, patient and compassionate 1:1 SEN Support Assistant to work closely with a Year 3 child with complex needs, as part of our committed inclusion team.

This role is a wonderful opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a real difference to a child’s daily experience of school.

About the Role

You will provide consistent 1:1 support across the school day for a young child in Year 3 with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). The child has a diagnosis of autism, alongside speech and language needs, sensory processing differences and medical needs, and requires a highly attuned adult to help them feel safe, understood and ready to learn.

You will support the child with the support and guidance of the class teacher, SENCo and wider professionals. The role will involve:

  • Supporting communication using simple language, visuals and routines.
  • Helping the child manage transitions and daily expectations.
  • Supporting emotional regulation and sensory needs in a calm, attuned way.
  • Encouraging independence, engagement and positive interactions
  • Working closely with the class teacher, SENCo and wider professionals

This is a role for someone who understands that progress may be small, meaningful and deeply rewarding.

We Are Looking For Someone Who:

  • Is warm, calm, patient and emotionally attuned.
  • Has experience of supporting children with autism and additional needs.
  • Understands the importance of routine, predictability and visual support.
  • Can follow professional guidance while responding sensitively to a child’s individual cues.
  • Is confident working 1:1, but also as part of a supportive team.
  • Is reflective, flexible and keen to learn.
  • Can support personal care and sensory needs with dignity and respect.

At Monkspath, our vision is clear: Learning and growing together to be the best that we can be. We are a large, vibrant school with over 700 pupils aged 2–11, and a highly experienced, well-established staff team. We believe that exceptional relationships – with our children, our staff, our families, and the wider community – are the bedrock of all we do. These strong, positive connections underpin our inclusive ethos, high expectations, and unwavering commitment to the wellbeing and achievement of every pupil. Our children are enthusiastic, polite, and eager to learn, and our staff team is collaborative, caring, and dedicated to making a difference.

Our school values underpin all that we do in school. Our values are the foundation for how we work together, how we support children’s development and progress in all areas of the curriculum, and how we nurture relationships and personal development.

We aspire great things for our children and promote excellence, not only in core subjects but also through a wide range of rich experiences which enhance learning in the National Curriculum and beyond. We make learning fun, stimulating, challenging and hugely rewarding.

Our school is a caring and diverse community where we foster inner confidence and a strong sense of self-worth. Frequent praise from our families and receiving secondary schools tells us how well equipped our children are, both academically and socially, to make the very best of the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. We are extremely impressed by our children as they go through school and move on in life, and we follow their progress with great interest.

We expect kind, responsible behaviour of all our children and this, coupled with academic rigour, makes for a happy, thriving, successful and vibrant school.
