What skills and experience we're looking for

  • NVQ Level 2 for Teaching Assistants or relevant/equivalent

  • Good numeracy and literacy (e.g. GCSE Grade C in English and maths or equivalent)
  • Effective use of ICT to support learning
  • Ability to relate well with children and adults
  • Ability to work as part of a team, understanding classroom roles and responsibilities and own position within these roles
  • A ‘can do’ attitude and growth mind-set, ability to see development opportunities in change.
  • Ability to adapt approach to suit pupil needs.
  • Working with or caring for children in a classroom or educational setting

  • Experience of assisting children to use resources for learning.

  • General understanding of national/foundation stage curriculum and other basic learning

  • Understanding of child development and the learning process

  • Understanding of the importance of opportunities for social skills development during break-times/outside of the classroom.

  • Knowledge of autism and other SEN and the impact on the individual child

  • Commitment to promoting equality and diversity across the service

  • Willingness to attend training as required for the role and a commitment to own personal development

  • A growth mindset and a positive outlook to support the development, wellbeing and self-esteem of students across the age ranges

Child Specific

Band B point 3 – 5 £20,812-£21,575 (actual salary £15,602 – £16,174)

Monday – Friday 32.5 hours per week

Term Time Only (39 weeks) permanent

To start April 2023

Monday-Friday 8.50am-3.40pm(Requirement to work until 4.45pm on some Wednesdays for staff training)

We are seeking to appoint a number of Child Specific Teaching Assistants at our outstanding all age special school. You will be required to provide support to a named student in all areas of the curriculum and to adapt your approach to suit their needs. There may be times when you are supporting a wider group of pupils. Positions are in our primary and secondary teams.

Pupils have a broad range of needs including Autism, ADHD, Downs Syndrome, social, emotional and behavioural challenges and a range of personal care and medical needs. We also support a growing number of pupils with mental health challenges.
