What skills and experience we're looking for
Are you an inspiring teacher who wants to make a real difference?
Englefield CE Primary School is seeking an enthusiastic, caring and committed Class Teacher to join our friendly and dedicated team from January 2027.
We are looking for a teacher who is passionate about learning, believes that every child can succeed and is excited by the opportunity to help children flourish academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually. You will bring creativity, enthusiasm and high expectations to the classroom, helping us provide an inspiring, inclusive and nurturing environment in which every child can thrive.
Our school is proud of its Christian vision and values, which underpin our relationships, our approach to learning and our commitment to the whole child. As an OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) school, we also value the power of play, exploration and outdoor experiences in developing confident, curious and resilient learners.
The successful candidate will:
Be an enthusiastic and reflective practitioner with a genuine passion for teaching and learning.
Plan and deliver engaging, well-structured lessons that meet the needs of all learners.
Set high expectations for achievement, behaviour and personal development.
Create a positive, inclusive classroom where every child feels safe, valued and supported.
Use assessment effectively to monitor progress, identify next steps and adapt teaching to meet individual needs.
Demonstrate strong knowledge of the primary curriculum and effective strategies for supporting pupils with a range of abilities and needs.
Build positive relationships with pupils, colleagues and families, working collaboratively to secure the best outcomes for children.
Contribute positively to our Christian ethos, modelling our school vision and values in everyday practice.
Be committed to professional development, teamwork and continuous improvement.
We would particularly welcome a teacher with:
Knowledge and experience of continuous provision, including purposeful, play-based learning environments that promote independence, curiosity and progression.
An enthusiasm for outdoor learning, with the confidence to use the natural environment to enrich the curriculum and develop children's understanding of the world.
A passion for PE and physical development, promoting active lifestyles, teamwork, resilience and enjoyment of sport.
An interest in OPAL play, supporting imaginative, inclusive and adventurous play opportunities that contribute to children's wellbeing and development.
Experience in these areas would be an advantage, but above all, we are looking for someone who shares our enthusiasm for giving children the very best possible start to their education.

Englefield Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School is a small popular rural church school within West Berkshire Local Education Authority. Originally built in 1863 for the children of workers on the Englefield Estate, it became a church school in the 1950s. The school expanded in size in the late 1960s to take in the children from the neighbouring parishes of Tidmarsh and Sulham. We are extremely proud of our achievements over the years serving our local area as an integral part of the education provision in West Berkshire.
We are a school with a strong tradition of partnerships which bring great benefit to the education we offer. West Berkshire Council, The Oxford Diocese, The Englefield Estate, The West Berkshire Small Schools Network, local independent schools and a thriving PTA are some of the organisations which, together with a small army of individual supporters, contribute to an extended education for our children.
Throughout its history our school has sought to adapt and improve to incorporate new opportunities for enhancing the education of our children and reinforcing the values and traditions at the heart of the school. Our ideal candidate will be excited at the challenge of taking our school forward to further achievements whilst maintaining the partnerships, character and feel of our traditional small village school.
