What skills and experience we're looking for
We are seeking an experienced Class Teacher with a strong background in special school primary or early years education to join our team.
Essential requirements:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Strong experience teaching in a special school primary or early years setting
- Experience working with pupils with Down's syndrome
- Confident and experienced in delivering personal care
- Proficient in using Makaton to support communication
- Ability to design and deliver a topic-based, primary-style curriculum
- Understanding of the needs of pupils with complex special educational needs
- Experience working with pupils with additional needs including autism
- Strong behaviour management skills
- Grade A-C or Level 2 qualifications in English and Mathematics

Oak Lodge School is a secondary school for students with hearing, speech and language and communication needs with a residential provision. Your responsibilities will include:
- Planning, preparing and delivering engaging programmes of study for Year 7 and 8 pupils with D/deaf and speech, language and communication needs
- Designing a topic-based, primary-style curriculum for language-based subjects
- Differentiating the curriculum to meet individual needs and setting aspirational targets
- Working collaboratively with Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists and other specialists
- Assessing, monitoring and reporting on pupil progress, including contributing to EHCPs
- Acting as Form Tutor, promoting the wellbeing and progress of your tutor group
- Managing Teaching Assistants and support staff to maximise pupil outcomes
- Creating a purposeful, inclusive learning environment where pupils feel safe and confident
- Maintaining high standards of behaviour and acting as a positive role model
- Communicating effectively with parents, carers and external professionals
- Contributing to extra-curricular activities and the wider life of the school

Oak Lodge School is a mixed maintained regional day and residential school in the London Borough of Wandsworth. Oak Lodge School provides education for pupils aged 10 to 19 from 32 local authorities. The provision is for students who are D/deaf and/or have speech, language and communication needs (SLCN)
(The term D/deaf is used throughout education and research to describe students who are Deaf (British Sign Language users) and deaf (who are hard of hearing and tend to communicate more orally).
