What skills and experience we're looking for
Primary or SEND teaching experience
Experience of teaching pupils with SEND, including sensory processing and speech, language and communication challenges.
Experience of successfully managing teaching assistants and wider supporting professionals.
A working knowledge of autism and its impacts on daily teaching and learning.
Knowledge and understanding of recent developments in curriculum and assessment.
A proven record of developing your own professional skills and learning.
Evidence of delivering successful teaching and learning.
Good communication skills and interpersonal skills.
Ability to engage all levels of learners creatively in play activities to support social and communication skill development
A commitment to supporting the positive ethos and values of the school.
Understanding of the management of distressed pupil behaviour as a form of communication.
A practical understanding and experience of managing your own resilience and wellbeing.
Ability to manage changes within and beyond your team with a creative, solution focused approach.

The post requires you to act as a class teacher as directed by the Head Teacher, teaching a broad curriculum to pupils in all key stages, but predominantly in the Secondary years.
1. To be responsible for planning and assessing the work of pupils assigned to you and to carry out all those related duties as defined in Role Purpose.
2. To be responsible for a form group and a curriculum subject across the school.
3. To ensure you understand all school’s safeguarding procedures and practices, including Child Protection and apply these in a sensitive manner to ensure the safety of all pupils, raising any concerns immediately with the School’s Designated Safeguarding Leads and Family Support Worker. Demonstrate an active awareness of annual Keeping Children Safe in Education updates.
4. To assist the Head Teacher in ensuring high standards of physical and emotional well-being for all pupils and staff.
5. To liaise with the teachers responsible for the whole school communication strategy and curriculum areas to ensure your subject is implemented into appropriate curriculum delivery and meets National Curriculum requirements in line with our broad range of neurodiverse learners.
6. To consistently support, actively develop and promote a total communication environment across the school.
7. To support the school ethos, adhere to the Staff Code of Conduct, acceptable use of IT expectations and promote strategies designed to achieve positive behaviour of pupils at all times around the school, consistent with the school’s co-regulation behaviour policy and restorative ethos.
8. To produce necessary reports for the purpose of reviewing individual pupil’s progress and take an lead role in annual reviews, Team Around the Family meetings, Child in Need meetings (where relevant) and parents’ evenings.
9. To ensure that records of pupils’ progress are maintained and available when requested, in line with the school’s assessment policy, evidencing progress of the whole child an in line with Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) expectations and SEND compliance. To manage and deploy support staff to work proactively in the practical application of EHCP criteria for all pupils.
10. To work collaboratively with members of staff and other stakeholders to ensure the best possible outcomes for pupils across school and to ensure planning and delivery is bespoke and appropriate to all learners and the school’s specific broad-spectrum curriculum.
11. To maintain an awareness of your personal and professional needs with regard to your continuing efficiency as an active member of staff and contributor to wider school improvement, seeking to continually reflect on and improve your own practice in response to pupil needs, with due regard to Teacher Standards and all related behaviours.
12. To make an active contribution to the life of the school and demonstrate a ‘can do’ attitude and growth mindset in the face of change, to consistently support the school’s mission, vison and values. Addressing our collective mission of ‘reaching for the stars’ with a solution focused approach to your daily work, in support of all pupils, families and colleagues.
13. To undertake training and further development as required by the school.
