Role Overview
Broadwater Church of England Primary School is seeking to appoint an experienced, highly motivated, and dedicated teacher to join our supportive team from April 2026. Class Teacher Job Description
Title of Post: Class teacher

Fulfil the role of class teacher in accordance with the Teacher Standards.
General Duties
- To uphold the Christian ethos of the school and contribute to its aims;
- To be responsible for the education and welfare of a designated group or groups of pupils.
- To teach them with due regard to matching learning opportunities and the ability of the child, so that they consolidate and progress;
- To plan, deliver and assess the curriculum within the ethos and policies of the school, and with particular reference to the National Curriculum;
- To provide a safe and stimulating environment, to employ organizational procedures which reflect the aims of the school and to acknowledge and celebrate children’s achievements including good quality displays;
- To retain a flexible approach with the school day so that, in unusual circumstances, for a limited period, children in addition to those in the class might be accommodated and taught;
- Jointly to prepare, implement and review the development plan and all policy documents;
- To take part in the Appraisal process;
- To participate in staff meetings and departmental meetings, so as to make an effective contribution to all aspects of school life;
- To contribute to meetings, discussions and management; systems necessary to ensure the coordination of the work of the school as a whole;
- To carry out a share of supervisory duties in accordance with published schedules;
- To maintain effective liaison with parents, particularly regarding their child’s attainment, attitudes and progress;
- To support colleagues in professional matters and cooperate with them through the planning and monitoring processes;
- To communicate and co-operate with governors in providing curricular and other information and explanation;
- To share in the corporate responsibility for the well-being and discipline of all pupils in accordance with the school’s Behaviour Management Policy, Health and Safety Policy and our Child Protection Policy;
- To reflect on and review one’s teaching methods and programmes and to maintain a contemporary knowledge of available techniques, resources and development in subject areas so as to ensure that one’s teaching is as effective as possible;
- To maintain class attendance registers;
- To be prepared to take responsibility for assisting/organising a club;
- To be prepared to take on the responsibilities of a curricular area or areas, in addition to the duties of a class teacher (see below);
- To uphold the principles of the Appendix to all staff job descriptions.
Particular Responsibilities
- To understand the requirements of the National Curriculum for a designated subject or subjects;
- To keep up to date with current initiatives within the subject area or areas including National Curriculum Strategies and Revisions, and to attend appropriate courses;
- To lead in the preparation and review of policy documents, curriculum plans and schemes of work for the subject area or areas;
- To provide support in the development of schemes of work, medium term plans, assessment and differentiation;
- To manage the purchasing, collection, evaluation and organisation of resources;
- To annually prepare an action plan for the development of the designated subject or subjects;
- In partnership with the Headteacher and Leadership and Management Team, be responsible for the monitoring and evaluating of the designated subject or subjects;

- Ensure Health and Safety is adhered to at all times;

- Assist with First Aid where appropriate certified training has been undertaken;

- Refer parents who approach you for information to the appropriate class teacher or headteacher;
- Maintain strict confidentiality about all school matters;
- Show loyalty to the school community.
Child Protection and Safeguarding the Welfare of Pupils
- Following the schools Child Protection and safeguarding policy;
- Accurately record incidents using the school’s reporting system.
- Report any Child Protection or safeguarding issues or concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead with responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of pupils.
