What skills and experience we're looking for

We are looking to appoint a reliable, efficient and flexible individual to provide a comprehensive administrative service and procedural advice to our Governing Body. The post holder will work closely with the Chair of Governors and Headteacher to ensure the effective operation of the Board.

Main Responsibilities

  • Meeting support: Prepare and circulate agendas and associated paperwork at least 10 working days in advance of meetings. Attend approximately12meetings per year(including Full Governing Body and Committee meetings) to take accurate minutes.

  • Procedural advice: Provide guidance to the governing body on procedural and constitutional matters, taking up unresolved issues with the Local Education Authority or Governor Services as appropriate.

  • Membership management: Maintain accurate records of governing body membership, record attendance and manage the administrative process for governor elections and vacancies.

  • Record keeping: Maintain a comprehensive filing system at the school for minutes, correspondence and statutory policies.

  • Communication: Act as a correspondent for the governing body and follow up on decisions and actions agreed during meetings.

Candidate Requirements

  • Experience: Previous experience in a wide range of administrative functions is essential. Prior experience as a Clerk to Governors is desirable, though full training will be provided.

  • Skills: Excellent IT literacy (e.g. spreadsheets and word processing), strong organisational skills, and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.

  • Qualifications: GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths(Grade C or above) and a formal qualification beyond GCSE in a relevant area.

  • Competencies: High level of confidentiality, attention to detail and the ability to interpret complex content during meetings.

  • Commitment: Availability to attend evening meetings as an essential part of the role.
