Clerk to Trustees (Governance Professional) job summary

We are seeking to appoint a highly organised and professional Clerk to Trustees (Governance Professional) to support the effective governance of our successful and ambitious school.

Working closely with the Chair of Trustees and Headteacher, you will provide high-quality administrative and procedural support to the Board of Trustees, ensuring it operates effectively and in accordance with statutory and regulatory requirements.

This role offers excellent flexibility, with the opportunity to work from home and manage working hours around governance requirements. Attendance at approximately 13 evening trustee and committee meetings per year is required, with meetings taking place both remotely and in person.

Previous governance experience is desirable but not essential. We welcome applications from candidates with strong organisational, communication and administrative skills who are keen to learn and develop in the role. Full induction, training and ongoing support will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

Organise trustee and committee meetings, including preparing agendas and papers.

Attend meetings and produce accurate minutes and action records.

Maintain governance records and ensure compliance with statutory requirements.

Provide procedural support and advice to trustees.

Act as a key point of contact for governance matters.

We are looking for someone who:

Has excellent organisational, administrative and IT skills.

Can communicate effectively and produce accurate minutes.

Demonstrates professionalism, discretion and confidentiality.

Can work independently and manage competing priorities.

Has experience in governance, committee administration or a similar role (desirable but not essential).
