Cognition and Learning Mentor job summary
Job overview
We are seeking to appoint a Cognition and Learning Mentor, to provide a proactive, preventative, and responsive complementary support service to that provided by teaching and pastoral staff. The role focuses on addressing the social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs of students to remove barriers to engagement, well-being, and academic success. A key element is supporting the school's most vulnerable students, including those with attendance difficulties, in successful re-engagement with education.
Working hours
Monday 8:30am to 4:30pm
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 8:30am-4:00pm
Friday 8:30am-3:30pm
Term time only plus 5 days
Job requirements
- Excellent knowledge of intervention delivery and monitoring techniques
- Excellent knowledge of cognition and learning difficulties
- Knowledge of specific learning areas including reading, spelling, number skills, vocabulary, and memory skills
- An understanding of safeguarding and the duty to promote the welfare of children and young people
- Ability to implement and evaluate a range of individual and small group interventions
- Skills to monitor the impact of interventions being delivered
- Experience delivering wave 2 interventions to support students
- Experience working as a key worker for students with SEND is desirable. Experience acting as a key worker for students with SEND is desirable
