Cover Supervisor job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Trust at South Dartmoor Community College, Ofsted inspected as ‘Good’ in all areas.

We are seeking to appoint a motivated and enthusiastic Cover Supervisor who shares our passion, vision and drive, and who is prepared to go the extra mile to support our students. You will join a committed and supportive staff team, playing a key role in maintaining continuity of learning during the short-medium term absence of teaching staff.

The role involves supervising classes in our dedicated cover room, delivering a carefully curated cover curriculum, managing classroom behaviour and ensuring that students remain engaged and focused on their learning. Developing positive relationships with students is essential, as is the ability to inspire confidence, maintain high expectations and create a purposeful learning environment. We are looking for a hardworking, flexible and resilient individual with excellent communication skills, a calm and professional approach and an unwavering determination to secure the best outcomes for all students. This role would particularly suit someone with experience of working with young people or those considering a future career in education.

In recent years, the College has secured some of the best results in the South West for student progress. It has a strong staff team in place to ensure every child is enabled to fulfil their potential including specialist teachers at all levels. We have an excellent academic record, and our pastoral support is second to none. Our students report that they feel very happy and safe at the school. We are proud of our students, and they are proud of their school. The relationships between staff and students are strong. Community engagement is also an important feature; we have an active Parent/Teacher Association (FOSDA—Friends of South Dartmoor College).

If you want to work in an inspiring, fully inclusive environment with students who are eager to succeed and alongside friendly, supportive colleagues, then we would love to hear from you. You will join a passionate and dedicated team within a Trust committed to professional development and career opportunities for all colleagues.

Part of the WeST Trust, we are an 11-18 College situated in Ashburton on the edge of Dartmoor. With impressive facilities, the college currently caters for approximately 800 students.
