Cover Supervisor 8 hours / LSA 5 Hours - Afternoons job summary
Blackfordby St Margaret's CE Primary School is seeking a caring, flexible and enthusiastic individual to join our dedicated team in a unique dual-role position. This rewarding opportunity combines the responsibilities of a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) and Cover Supervisor, providing varied and meaningful work that supports pupils' learning, wellbeing and development across the school.
Working afternoons only, the successful candidate will spend 5 hours per week supporting teaching and learning as a Learning Support Assistant and 8 hours per week working as a Cover Supervisor. In the LSA aspect of the role, you will work alongside class teachers to support learning activities, provide targeted support for individual pupils and small groups, and help children achieve their learning goals. You will also support pupils with additional needs, including those with EHCPs and support plans, while promoting their social, emotional, physical and academic development. A key part of the role will be helping to create a safe, engaging and inclusive learning environment, as well as assisting with the preparation of learning resources and classroom displays.
As a Cover Supervisor, you will supervise whole classes during the short-term absence of teachers, ensuring pupils remain engaged in pre-planned learning activities and continue to make progress. You will foster positive behaviour and maintain a productive learning environment while providing feedback to teaching staff on pupil engagement, progress and conduct. The role also involves supporting the organisation and delivery of classroom activities across the curriculum and using your initiative to manage lessons effectively in line with school policies and procedures.
We are looking for someone with experience of working with children in a school or educational setting who can build positive relationships with pupils, colleagues and families. You will have strong communication and interpersonal skills, confidence in leading and managing groups of pupils, and the flexibility to adapt to a variety of classroom situations. A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is essential, alongside the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Applicants should hold GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths (or equivalent). A Teaching Assistant qualification, NVQ Level 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or relevant experience would be advantageous.
In return, we can offer a warm and welcoming school community where staff are valued and supported. You will work with enthusiastic, well-behaved pupils who enjoy learning and benefit from opportunities for professional development and training. This varied role provides the chance to make a real difference to children’s education while developing experience in both classroom support and lesson supervision.
Join us and make a positive difference to children's learning and development every afternoon.
