What skills and experience we're looking for

John Smeaton Academy is seeking to appoint an inspirational and highly motivated colleague to the role of Cover Supervisor. This is a key position within our academy and an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people and contributing to a positive and purposeful learning environment.

As a Cover Supervisor, you will play a vital role in maintaining continuity of learning during short-term teacher absence. You will supervise classes across the academy, ensuring students remain engaged, focused and ready to learn whilst upholding the high standards and expectations that underpin the 'John Smeaton Academy Way'.

We are looking for an individual with strong communication skills, confidence in leading groups of students and the ability to build positive relationships quickly. The successful candidate will join a supportive and ambitious staff team committed to securing the gift of choice for every young person in our community.

This role would particularly suit someone considering a future career in teaching or education, or an individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same.

Potential applicants should have:

  • GCSE Grade C/4 and above (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics.
  • Experience of working with young people.
  • Ability to adapt to different abilities, key stages, subjects and situations.
