This is an exciting opportunity for you to join our fantastic school. We are seeking to appoint an outstanding, innovative and inspirational teacher and leader with the passion and enthusiasm to fulfil an important role in the school as Curriculum Leader: Media and Film Studies. Results at GCSE are strong, but we are relentless in our drive for improvement, and you will be empowered to bring your subject expertise, emotional intelligence and curriculum vision to secure excellent results for every child, regardless of their starting point.

An introduction to Media and Film at Weydon School

Media Studies and Film Studies are very popular subjects at GSCE at Weydon. Students make their option choices at the end of Year 8 and therefore follow a three-year GCSE programme. There are 2 classes in each of Years 9-11 of Media Studies and 1 class of Film Studies in each year group. We follow the EDUQAS exam board for both subjects.

The Media department is part of the large English faculty, members of which also contribute to the teaching of Media Studies. Non-specialists are supported through extensive resourcing, regular meetings and a collaborative ethos which leads to exceptional results for all students in these subjects regardless of their starting point.

60% of students at Weydon are high prior attainers, but this is a comprehensive school and we work hard to ensure our lessons are adapted to the needs of the individuals in each class. Disciplinary reading is a whole school focus, as the legacy of COVID continue to adversely affect the reading ages of students across the school.

Every student has access to resources through their own iPad; you will have your own iPad and laptop to support your planning and delivery of lessons in and out of school.

Professional Learning is an integral part of working at Weydon with opportunities for pedagogical and leadership development embedded into the weekly CPD programme.

Students at Weydon are expected to take part in two clubs each week, and the Media and Film team provide numerous opportunities to explore the subject through clubs and trips.

Our vision: Joy and ambition

Weydon is a joyful community which is ambitious for all its members and is restless to improve. We are driven by a moral purpose to provide an excellent and innovative learning experience which develops scholarship, character, confidence and leadership.

Our values: Believe, Belong, Care

·        We have the highest expectations of each other. These are set not by creating a fear of failure, but by our absolute belief in the potential of every member of our community to achieve great things and in our responsibility to support them to do so

·        We are driven by the mission for all to experience the joy of belonging to an inspiring, ambitious, safe and compassionate community in which all are valued and respected

·        We believe the best in everyone and therefore every interaction is considered, thoughtful and kind, even when we do not agree with each other
