Curriculum Leader - English job summary
The English Faculty at Moor End Academy is an amazing team to join!    We are an Outstanding Faculty, officially
recognised in the academy’s outstanding Ofsted report of June 2012, which
stated: “Teaching in English results in rapid and sustained progress due to the
highly imaginative curriculum, excellent use of stimulating learning resources,
rigorous use of assessment and tightly focused planning.”
Our curriculum is driven by creativity and challenge. Students love
English and they respond positively to our imaginative and stimulating
 approach.
At KS3, students study a curriculum covering a range of creative topics
where we ensure the breadth and depth of knowledge needed to build on from KS2
and prepare for KS4. We believe in challenging our students, and so cover an
array of texts ranging from Stevenson’s ‘Treasure Island’ to Bronte’s
 ‘Wuthering Heights’.
At KS4, students follow the AQA exam board, for both Literature and
Language, with opportunities to explore literary theory, and learning beyond
 the exam board content.
We have a strong tradition of offering additional enrichment
opportunities to all students and we welcome any suggestions and input which
would further enhance this. We believe in ensuring that all students have the
opportunity to experience theatre, film and literature in different forms,
regardless of the experiences that they may have outside of school. We work
closely with other departments to develop our cross curricular links, at both
KS3 and KS4, ensuring students are exposed to learning beyond the classroom,
and experience practical applications of their skills and knowledge.
As a member of the English Faculty, a wealth of opportunities for
personal and professional development will be open to you.  You will be given the chance to take
responsibility for leading on key areas of change, such as the development of
speaking and listening skills, or how we can promote learning outside the
classroom, as well as opportunities to contribute fully to the faculty review
 process.
Achievement of students is outstanding because they consistently make
significantly more progress than students nationally in English. You will be
part of maintaining these high standards and will provide opportunities for
students to extend their love of English beyond the classroom.
Moor End Academy is a very exciting school and the English Faculty is at the forefront of academy life. If you want to be part of a vibrant, successful and creative team who are not afraid to take risks, then we’d love to hear from you!
The successful applicants will be required to undertake a Criminal Record Check via the DBS. The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
