Curriculum Leader, Maths (TLR1) job summary

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced and passionate Mathematics teacher - potentially someone with previous Head of Department experience or currently has additional responsibility for Maths - who is ready to make a significant impact in a key curriculum area.

• Have extensive experience teaching Mathematics at KS3, KS4, and KS5.
• Lead a large teaching team to deliver strong outcomes for pupils.

The mathematics department comprises of eight qualified teachers. We work collaboratively to provide a broad, ambitious, and unique curriculum to all learners. A priority to all in our team is wellbeing, job satisfaction and the all-important balance of home life and work.

Mathematics offers a broad, ambitious, and knowledge-rich curriculum that enables all students to develop deep conceptual understanding alongside procedural fluency. At Key Stage 3, students build secure foundations in number, algebra, geometry, ratio, and statistics through a carefully sequenced curriculum designed to promote reasoning, problem solving and mathematical thinking. Lessons provide opportunities for exploration, discussion, and independent enquiry, allowing students to develop confidence, resilience and a genuine appreciation of the power and relevance of mathematics.

At Key Stage 4, students follow a three-year GCSE Mathematics course, beginning in Year 9 and culminating in the GCSE examinations at the end of Year 11. Students currently follow the Edexcel specification for GCSE Mathematics. Throughout the course, students are regularly assessed through end-of-unit tests, and Pre-Public Examinations (PPEs), enabling teachers to monitor progress and provide targeted support where needed.

Students are placed in teaching groups based on a range of evidence, including classwork, homework, assessment outcomes, attainment data and professional judgement from their teachers. This approach ensures that students are supported and challenged appropriately to maximise their progress and achievement in Mathematics.

The ability to teach A Level Mathematics is essential for this role. We currently offer both AS and A Level Mathematics following the Edexcel specification, covering the Pure Mathematics, Mechanics and Statistics components.

Students follow the AS course in Year 12 and sit the AS examinations at the end of the academic year. Their performance in these examinations, alongside their overall progress and commitment to the course, informs progression to the full A Level programme in Year 13. Our sixth form mathematicians are encouraged to develop independence, resilience, and deeper mathematical reasoning, preparing them for higher education and a wide range of STEM-related careers.

The successful applicant will be passionate about teaching and learning, have a desire and an eagerness to contribute to the subject area.
