Data Manager job summary

Moseley School & Sixth Form are seeking to appoint an experienced, highly skilled and motivated Data Manager to lead the strategic management, analysis and reporting of data across the school. This is an exciting opportunity for an exceptional professional to play a pivotal role in ensuring the effective use of data to drive school improvement, support student achievement and inform strategic decision-making.

Working closely with senior leaders, teaching staff and external stakeholders, the successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the integrity, accuracy and security of the school's data systems whilst developing robust reporting mechanisms that provide meaningful insight into performance across the organisation.

The Data Manager will provide expert leadership in all aspects of data management, business intelligence and reporting. They will oversee the school's Management Information Systems (MIS), assessment and performance data processes, statutory returns and compliance requirements, ensuring that data is used effectively to support operational excellence and educational outcomes.

The post holder will be responsible for producing and analysing complex datasets, identifying trends, monitoring key performance indicators and presenting high-quality management information to senior leaders and governors. They will also lead on data governance, quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure the school remains compliant with statutory and regulatory requirements.

We re looking for someone who has:

  • Has substantial experience in school data management and a thorough understanding of Management Information Systems (MIS), data governance, GDPR, census returns and statutory reporting requirements.
  • Possesses advanced technical expertise in Microsoft Excel, Power BI and data visualisation tools, with the ability to manipulate, analyse and present complex data effectively.
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of business intelligence, performance analytics, trend analysis and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Has proven experience of leading and developing staff through effective line management, appraisal and performance management processes.
  • Maintains exceptional attention to detail and a rigorous approach to data validation, quality assurance, audit and compliance.
  • Can interpret and communicate data strategically, providing evidence-based insights that support school improvement planning, organisational effectiveness and leadership decision-making.
  • Possesses excellent organisational, communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet critical deadlines.
  • Is a proactive and solution-focused professional, committed to continuous improvement and innovation.
