What skills and experience we're looking for

We are now looking to appoint an energetic and innovative Deputy Catering Manager to join our team. This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in shaping the future of The Kitchen, supporting the Catering Manager in delivering excellent service, and driving forward our vision for healthy, sustainable school dining.

Launched in September 2025, The Kitchen at Toynbee School is our in-house catering service for pupils, staff, and visitors. Our vision is to create a vibrant, sustainable dining experience — from nutritious main meals to convenient “on the go” options — that supports health and wellbeing across our whole community. We are committed to serving high-quality, locally sourced meals that promote health, celebrate variety, and respect the planet. By offering outstanding value for money and ensuring every stakeholder — especially the most vulnerable — enjoys the best meal of their day, we aim to build a welcoming and supportive food culture that fosters community, wellbeing, and a lifelong love of good food.

What the school offers its staff

The successful candidate supporting the Catering Manager will be responsible for supporting the planning, delivery, and quality assurance of our catering service. This will include supervising staff, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards, and maintaining consistently high standards of food quality and customer service. You will help lead on menu development, promote sustainability through local sourcing and waste reduction, and work closely with staff, pupils, and external partners to enhance the dining experience at Toynbee School.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be passionate about food, sustainability, and support young people’s health and wellbeing.
  • Experience of working in the catering industry, private or public sector.
  • Lead by example and inspire the catering team.
  • Have excellent organisational and interpersonal skills.
  • Be forward-thinking, innovative, and able to adapt in a busy environment.

Whilst previous experience in a school setting is not essential, a strong background in catering and a genuine passion for supporting young people to thrive is crucial.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a school that is not only proud of its strong reputation and success in the community, but also committed to investing in its people. We have an excellent track record of developing and supporting our staff to progress both professionally and in their careers.

We reserve the right to close this advert early should we receive suitable interest.

We are looking for a well-qualified and enthusiastic teacher to join our Mathematics team on a part or full time basis to start in September 2025. This role is suitable for both ECTs, who would benefit from a comprehensive range of support and guidance, and more experienced teachers alike. We are open to applicants who may be looking for part time work as well as applicants looking for a full-time position.

You will join a highly successful and well-resourced Maths Department where the focus in recent years has been on consistency of approaches, creating a productive and effective department where we have the belief that all children will achieve their potential. The department really does embody the school motto of “Personal Best” working together with pupils to encourage them to meet their individual goals.  While we are very proud of these outcomes for our students in recent years, we remain driven and determined to improve even further. We are keen to employ a teacher who will share in this commitment whilst developing their own leadership.

Toynbee School is an oversubscribed school with consistently high achievement and progress across all subjects. The school was categorised as ‘Good’ by OFSTED in October 2015 and again in March 2019.  We offer all staff:

An extensive CPD and Induction programme
Excellent facilities
A supportive team environment
Membership of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme

We have an excellent track record of developing and supporting our staff to progress both professionally, and in their career.

If you feel that you could contribute to the Maths Department’s continued success and if you would like to work in a school which is genuinely supportive and developmental then we would be delighted to hear from you.

Visits to the school are strongly encouraged and warmly welcomed.
