Deputy Head of Department for PE job summary

We are seeking to appoint a well-qualified PE teacher who is driven, proactive and committed to the success of the department, with the progress and wellbeing of pupils at the heart of everything they do. The successful candidate will demonstrate a growth mindset and emotional intelligence, and will be highly organised, enthusiastic about their subject and eager to support the continued development of the Physical Education Department.

Working closely with the Head of Department, the successful applicant will lead by example, supporting colleagues in delivering high-quality teaching and learning and implementing whole-school policies. They will have the knowledge, experience and ambition to contribute to the ongoing development of this successful department and will possess a strong understanding of current educational developments and best practice within Physical Education.

We are looking for a self-motivated, passionate sportsperson who enjoys working collaboratively as part of a team and who is committed to helping drive our Physical Education Department to new heights. You must have a willingness to participate in the delivery of our extensive extra-curricular programme. We are a department that welcomes innovative ideas from all team members and actively encourages continuing professional development.

Key responsibilities include:

• Supporting the Head of Physical Education in the leadership and development of a team of dedicated PE teachers.
• Assisting in the development, monitoring and continual improvement of the Quality of Education within Physical Education at Faringdon Community College.
• Working closely with the Physical Education team and Senior Leadership Team to implement effective strategies that maintain and improve student outcomes in Physical Education.
• Supporting curriculum development, assessment and quality assurance across the department.
• Contributing to the monitoring of student progress, engagement and achievement, helping to identify and implement appropriate interventions where required.
• Supporting the coordination and promotion of the school's extensive extra-curricular sports programme.
• Assisting in the mentoring and development of colleagues within the department, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
