Deputy Head job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an exceptional and ambitious leader to join Washwood Heath Academy’s Senior Leadership team. We are seeking to appoint a dynamic, inspirational, and forward-thinking Deputy Headteacher to join Washwood Heath Academy and deliver an ‘All-through’ strategic lead for safeguarding, attendance, behaviour and personal development and wellbeing.

This is a fantastic leadership opportunity for a committed and talented leader to join the Washwood Heath Leadership team as Deputy Headteacher leading on Pastoral. This position is fundamental to ensuring that all pupils are safe and looked after, enjoy their time at Washwood Heath and thrive within a friendly and welcoming setting. The successful candidate will be instrumental in supporting our young people to become outstanding members of society and ensure that all pupils strive and reach their full potential. Furthermore, the successful candidate will work with a team of Assistant Heads to develop safeguarding and pastoral care, building upon current strengths, as part of our journey to ‘Outstanding’.

The focus of this role is Pastoral, working with the Head of Academy and senior leaders, including the Head of Primary Phase to:

  • Provide outstanding safeguarding for pupils
  • Develop outstanding behaviour for learning
  • Provide excellent pastoral care, guidance, and support
  • Effectively line manage the pastoral senior and middle leadership team
  • Lead and oversee personal development, behaviour, and welfare of pupils
  • Lead on inclusion provision
  • Lead on whole school attendance and admissions

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a strong and proven track record of strategic leadership with the ability to inspire and enthuse the whole school community. Applicants for this role should be passionate advocates for excellent safeguarding and personal development and developing a positive climate for learning and social interaction around the Academy. We are looking for a self-motivated, exceptionally well organised, and good team player to play a critical and prominent role across the Academy.

Finally, we are looking for an inspirational leader who has a natural presence and will be a role-model to pupils, staff and the wider community. This role would be equally suited to someone who is an aspiring Head or who would prefer to remain a Deputy. Regardless of professional ambition, it is critical that the successful candidate will be fully committed to ensuring that the pastoral care at Washwood Heath is exceptional.
