Deputy Headteacher - Inclusion (SENDCo) job summary

Hadleigh Junior School is seeking a highly driven, compassionate, and dynamic leader with a passion for inclusion to join our Senior Leadership Team as Deputy Headteacher SENDCo.

As a member of the Senior Leadership Team you will work closely with the wider SLT to support colleagues across the school in developing and implementing effective provision for vulnerable pupils in line with the SEND Code of Practice.

You will be skilful in working with pupils with a wide range of strengths and needs and will have excellent communication skills enabling liaison with a variety of external agencies and stakeholders.

About the Role

We are seeking an exceptional Deputy Headteacher/SENDCo to help drive our school forward and ensure the highest standards of teaching, learning, behaviour, attendance and pastoral care. This is a key strategic role, combining whole‑school leadership with responsibility for provision for pupils with SEND.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Headteacher to shape the school’s vision, and maintain a culture of excellence and nurturing care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide inspirational leadership across the school as part of the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Teaching and learning, inclusion, behaviour, attendance and pastoral care.
  • Coordinate and line manage the Pastoral and Inclusion Team and support staff, including the deployment of resources and interventions.
  • Work closely with families, external agencies, and professionals to deliver personalised support.
  • Monitor and analyse pupil progress, using data to inform strategic decisions.
  • Support teaching, learning, and curriculum development across the school.
  • Model outstanding classroom practice and promote high standards of behaviour and safeguarding.
  • Lead the implementation of the school's Behaviour Policy, providing training and support for staff and liaising with key stakeholders and other agencies as necessary.
  • Contribute to whole‑school improvement planning and evaluation.

  • Is a resilient and experienced leader with a proven track record of raising standards.
  • Holds the NASENCo qualification (or is willing to work towards it).
  • Has a deep understanding of the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Can build strong relationships with pupils, staff, and families.
  • Is committed to continuous improvement, teamwork, and reflective practice.
