What skills and experience we're looking for

Join Park View School and make a difference every day.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, skilled and well-organised Design & Technology Technician to join our Design Faculty and support the delivery of an engaging, practical and ambitious curriculum across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with strong practical skills, a proactive approach and a commitment to helping young people develop their creativity, technical knowledge and practical expertise. Working closely with the Faculty Leader and teaching staff, you will play a key role in supporting students with their GCSE and A-Level coursework, preparing resources for practical lessons and ensuring that our workshops, equipment and facilities are safe, well maintained and fit for purpose.

The successful candidate will help develop innovative practical projects, explore new materials and processes, and support the effective use of CAD/CAM technologies. You will also provide practical guidance to students, including small-group and individual support, helping them to develop their confidence and achieve their potential.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing materials, tools and equipment for practical lessons across all key stages.

  • Supporting students with GCSE and A-Level coursework, including practical work outside timetabled lessons where required.

  • Maintaining workshop equipment, machinery, CAD/CAM facilities and departmental resources.

  • Managing stock, placing orders and ensuring materials are available when needed.

  • Promoting and maintaining high standards of health and safety throughout the Design Faculty.

  • Supporting staff development through the introduction of new techniques, processes and technologies.

  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across the upper and lower school sites.

You will have good practical skills and knowledge of workshop tools, equipment and machinery, together with an understanding of workshop health and safety. You will be organised, reliable and able to work both independently and as part of a team. You will also have the communication skills and enthusiasm needed to work positively with students and staff.

If you are passionate about practical learning, enjoy solving problems and want to make a positive contribution to students’ educational experience, we welcome your application.

Park View is a forward thinking, exciting and, most important of all, happy school where children of all abilities, aptitudes and social backgrounds achieve. This has given us a reputation for excellence within the locality of which we are exceptionally proud.
We have been at the heart of Chester-le-Street since 1911, first as the town’s grammar school and latterly as its largest Academy. Our roots in the community are long-established and inform all that we do: thus, although we are innovative and offer children a 21st Century education of real worth, we cherish and foster traditional values.
We passionately believe that all young people can achieve if challenged to do so, that each has in them special qualities, talents and strengths which it is the duty of true educators to develop. It is this moral imperative which drives us, providing an unflinching focus upon the continued improvement necessary for us to realise our ambition: to be an outstanding school which provides the very best educational experience for all in our care.
To succeed in our ambition, we work closely in partnership with parents and carers. We rely upon support from home and are delighted that the vast majority of our families make an unconditional commitment to trust their children to our care, reinforcing our standards by supporting school actions. It is this mutual trust which sits at the heart of the school and is one of our greatest strengths.

We have excellent transport links: the school is situated half a mile from Junction 63 of the A1(M) motorway, and the local train station is only 5 minutes walk from our main school site. Chester-le-Street also has a wide variety of leisure facilities, all within walking distance of our school.
