Designated Safeguarding Lead job summary

We are looking for an experienced and committed Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) to join our Senior Leadership Team and take a leading role in safeguarding and child protection across the school. You will report directly to the Strategic Business Lead and work closely with the wider senior leadership team to ensure safeguarding remains at the heart of school life.

As DSL, you will have overall lead responsibility for safeguarding, including child protection, online safety and understanding the filtering and monitoring systems in place. You will provide expert advice and support to colleagues, ensuring that safeguarding remains at the heart of school life and that staff have the knowledge, confidence and support they need to identify and respond to concerns effectively.

The role will involve managing safeguarding referrals and cases, working closely with social care, the police, Channel, the LADO and other external agencies, as well as contributing to strategy discussions and multi-agency meetings. You will also play an important role in ensuring that vulnerable children receive the appropriate support and that their educational outcomes remain a key priority.

You will lead on safeguarding training and development, including Prevent awareness, maintain and quality assure child protection records, oversee safeguarding policies and procedures, and monitor the effectiveness of safeguarding practice across the school. You will also have the opportunity to champion pupil voice, helping to create a culture where children feel listened to, valued and able to speak to trusted adults.

This is a role for someone who can combine strong professional judgement with compassion, resilience and excellent communication skills. You will need to be confident managing sensitive and complex situations, providing authoritative advice to colleagues and making well-considered decisions that prioritise the welfare of vulnerable children.
