Director of Literacy (Teacher of English)
Required for January 2025
We are seeking to appoint an outstanding Director of Literacy to further develop literacy across the academy. The successful candidate will join a highly effective team of senior middle leaders who work closely with the Senior Team to ensure we provide our students with the very best education possible.
Applications are invited from ambitious, inspirational and talented leaders or classroom practitioners who believe they have the skills, expertise and tenacity to support students to have outstanding literacy skills. Furthermore, candidates will be passionate about delivering exciting, innovative and engaging English lessons that allow all students to achieve their full potential.
Ensuring all students have excellent literacy skills is our moral imperative. We are looking for an excellent English practioner who:
- has a clear vision for literacy across our academy
- can devise and implement a whole academy 'Literacy Development Plan'
- demonstrates and models the highest standards of oracy, reading, writing and SPaG
- prioritises the reading skills of all students, particularly those who need support to improve their reading rapidly
- can lead and support teachers to ensure curriculum intent and implementation priorities literacy
Ormiston Meridian Academy is a thriving secondary academy in the south of the city, serving 11-16 year old students. Our English Faculty is highly successful, with plenty of experience and expertise, making it an ideal faculty for an incoming leader to thrive in. As part of the English team, the successful candidate will work alongside the Director of English to take the teaching of literacy across the academy to the next level. The English team work collaboratively and support one another brilliantly. Leaders provide a clear and strategic approach to the curriculum, teaching and assessment approaches ensuring new members of the team have schemes of learning and lesson resources to hit the ground running. The team also demonstrate a commitment to extra-curricular clubs and activities which the successful candidate would be expected to support.
