DT Technician job summary
32.5 hours per week, term time only, plus 5 INSET training days. We recognise the importance of a work-life balance and are happy to offer flexibility around start and finish times to suit individual circumstances, including school drop-off and collection times. We welcome discussions about working patterns, provided the successful candidate can fulfil the required 32.5 hours per week. NJC Level 2a points 3 - 4 £19,590- £19,897 per annum, actual salary (£25,614- £26,016 pro rata) We are looking for a practical and enthusiastic person to join our friendly Design Technology department as a Design Technology Technician. You do not need to have previous experience working in a school or as a DT Technician. What is more important to us is that you enjoy practical, hands-on work, are willing to learn and would like to develop new skills. Training and support will be provided, including training in the safe use of relevant tools, machinery and equipment. This is a varied role where no two days are quite the same. You will work alongside our DT teachers, helping to prepare materials and equipment for lessons, keep the department organised, manage resources and support the smooth running of our practical classrooms and workshops. You may already have practical skills from work, a hobby, DIY, crafts, construction, engineering, maintenance, manufacturing or another hands-on environment - or you may simply be interested in developing these skills. We would be very happy to hear from you even if you do not meet every aspect of the role at this stage. We are looking for someone who is reliable, organised, enjoys working as part of a team and is happy to get involved. If you are practical, enjoy solving problems and like the idea of supporting young people in a busy and creative school environment, we would encourage you to apply. Interested but would like to know more? We would be very happy to have an informal conversation with anyone who is interested in the role and would like to find out more before deciding whether to apply. There is no expectation that you will already have all the skills or experience required, as appropriate training can be provided. For an informal discussion or further information about the role, please contact dmatthews@sandysecondaryschool.com.
How to apply for the role: We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workforce and warmly welcome applications from people of all genders, backgrounds and levels of experience. Application is by completed application form via my new term, just click on the link on our website or click on the QR code above. Closing Date - Monday 16th November 2026 at 9.00am.
