About the Role
South Wirral High School is seeking a motivated, organised and safety-conscious DT Technician to join our successful Design & Technology department. This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in supporting teaching and learning by preparing materials, maintaining equipment, and ensuring a safe and efficient workshop environment for both staff and students.
Working closely with teaching staff, the successful candidate will support practical lessons across Design & Technology, maintain tools and machinery, manage stock and resources, and contribute to the smooth operation of the department. This role would suit an individual with experience in a workshop, engineering, manufacturing, construction or technical environment who enjoys supporting young people and helping them develop practical skills.

Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, organise and maintain materials, equipment, tools and resources for practical lessons and demonstrations.
- Support teaching staff and students during practical activities within Design & Technology lessons.
- Undertake routine maintenance, inspection and minor repairs of machinery, tools and workshop equipment.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety requirements, including risk assessments, COSHH regulations and safe working practices. ,
- Monitor and maintain stock levels, process orders and keep accurate records of departmental resources. ,
- Maintain a safe, clean and organised workshop environment. ,
- Assist with the preparation and development of resources to support high-quality teaching and learning. ,
- Contribute to the wider life of the school and department, supporting events, projects and enrichment activities where appropriate.
Requirements
Essential
- Good standard of education including GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent).
- Experience working in a Design & Technology, workshop, engineering, manufacturing or technical environment.
- Experience using and maintaining hand tools, machinery and workshop equipment.
- Knowledge of safe working practices within a workshop or practical environment.
- Understanding of health and safety requirements and risk management procedures.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. ,
Desirable
- Relevant vocational or technical qualification in Engineering, Manufacturing, Construction, D&T or a related discipline.
- Previous experience working in a school or educational setting.
- Experience of stock control and resource management.
- Knowledge of machinery inspection procedures, CLEAPSS guidance and school-based health and safety practices.
