Education Welfare Officer job summary

We are looking to appoint an Education Welfare Officer to join our dedicated team and take a proactive role in ensuring every student achieves their full potential by promoting regular attendance. At Co-op Academy Leeds we believe in the power of education to transform lives. We are committed to ensuring that every student has the opportunity to succeed and attendance plays a critical role in this.

As an Education Welfare Officer, you'll be instrumental in taking a leading role in the strategic promotion of school attendance, championing a culture where every student and parent/carer feel empowered to overcome barriers to learning. Your strengths will include building good relationships with children and adults, coupled with patience and a sense of humour and a willingness to be fully involved in school life.

If you are passionate about making a difference in students' lives, this role offers you the chance to improve school attendance, supporting students in overcoming challenges and helping them to thrive.

Why us?

Teaching and learning are at the core of everything we do; we believe that without a strong learning culture, nothing else matters. Our focus is on providing regular, relevant, and valuable professional development for our staff, much of which is crafted and delivered by our dedicated in-house Teaching & Learning Team. We expect everyone who joins our community to actively participate in this culture of sharing and continuous improvement.

All our values are based upon the values of the Co-op Group, which will inform our behaviours.

Self-help: We do not expect to be spoon fed – we will try to do things for ourselves in the right way and at the right time.

Self-responsibility: Everyone should act in a responsible way around the academy site and in the local community. We take responsibility for our own learning; we want to become independent learners.

Equality: We are proud to be part of a very multicultural academy, with students from all over the world; it is important that we treat each other with respect and accept that others may be different from ourselves. We should all of us have equal chances to succeed.

Equity: We want to look for the best in each other. Rewarding others fairly to encourage all types of achievement.

Democracy: We will contribute our ideas to make the academy a success.

Solidarity: We can achieve more by working together, rather than as individuals.

Here at Co-op Academy Leeds, we aim to ensure everyone has the opportunity to flourish, both academically and socially. We expect students and staff to have the courage to aim high, the commitment to persevere – even when the going gets tough – and the mindset which will allow them to grow.

Teaching and learning sit right at the heart of everything we do – nothing else matters if the learning culture is not good enough. We focus relentlessly on ensuring staff receive regular, relevant and useful professional development, much of which is provided and delivered by our in-house Teaching & Learning Team. Anyone who joins us is expected to contribute to this sharing culture.

We have high expectations – and unstinting moral values. We also enjoy the significant support of the Trust and the Sponsor, which brings with it a range of opportunities and benefits, alongside a less “formal” package of colleagues working together to look after their well-being and forge stronger relationships.

We really are all about providing the best we can for everyone – making sure our students leave here and move on to better things, whatever their starting points and backgrounds.
