Estates Painter & Decorator job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for skilled and reliable in-house Painters and Decorators to join our growing Estates team, working across our schools in Surrey.

This role is offered on an annualised hours basis, meaning the total number of hours worked per year will be agreed at interview and spread across the year depending on project needs. This structure may appeal particularly to self-employed decorators looking for a more predictable income and guaranteed work each year, while still allowing flexibility throughout the year.

You will be part of a dedicated decorating team, supporting the redecoration, refurbishment, and enhancement of learning spaces across our schools. This is a fantastic opportunity to work within a collaborative and supportive environment, making a visible and valued contribution to our school communities.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Preparing and decorating internal and some external surfaces including walls, ceilings, and furniture.
  • Colour matching, surface preparation, and applying paint and finishes to a high standard.
  • Ensuring all work is compliant with health and safety regulations throughout and upon completion.
  • Supporting general maintenance and site cover where required, especially during caretaker absence.
  • Ensuring school premises remain safe, clean, and ready for use by students and staff.

Essential Requirements:

  • Experience in painting and decorating with a high standard of finish.
  • Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Good understanding of health, safety, and compliance in a school or public setting.
  • Flexibility to work during school holidays and take leave during term time.
  • A driving licence and access to a car to travel between the school sites.
