What skills and experience we're looking for
What
we are looking for in applicants is:
- An excellent EYFS classroom practitioner
- Good classroom behaviour management and assessment skills
- The ability to engage and enthuse pupils having a creative way to approaching lessons within a Reception / primary setting
- Excellent planning and preparation that meets the needs of all pupils
- Good communication skills and works well as a team
- Knowledge of birth-5 matters guidance
- Knowledge of RWI and its implementation in EYFS

Highwoods Academy is situated in Mexborough. We are a small school with a one-form entry, nursery through to year 6. The school has a very strong community ethos which influences all aspects of school life. The school has a very strong and committed Leadership Team who support the work of the Head Teacher in leading continuing improvement. The school has a team of dedicated support staff a Learning Mentor, Senior Teaching Assistant and experienced Teaching Assistants. The pupils of Highwoods Academy come from a range of social and cultural backgrounds. Approximately 25% pupils are on the SEN register. 26% of children are on free school meals. Extra-curricular activities are a key feature of the school. We use sports coaches to provide high quality provision. We have achieved Basic Skills award and The Healthy Schools Award. The school is also committed to providing the pupils with exciting and inspiring learning opportunities in order to raise standards. We have developed a learning challenge based approach to the curriculum and we use external visits and visitors to school to provide the pupils with enriched learning experiences.
