Further details about the role

Family Liaison Officer - Harbour School Dorset

Salary £27,269 - £31,067, actual salary £23,335-£26,586 for working 37 hours per week, Monday-Thursday 8.30am-4.30pm and Fridays until 1pm. Term time only. Plus, generous sick pay and pension scheme.

Driving licence and own car required for home visits and traveling around the borough are part of the job

At Harbour School Dorset, we’re all about making big changes for young people with Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. After an exciting three years of growth, we’re looking for a Family Liaison Officer to join our expanding team and help us continue making waves.

Led by our Headteacher, Dan, and our senior team, we're looking for someone who’s ready to step in and truly make an impact. If you’ve got what it takes to empower young people and show them that qualifications are the launchpad for success, then this could be the perfect job for you.

Role Overview:

As our Family Liaison Officer, you’ll be the unsung hero who steps in to support both students and families through the ups and downs of their school journey. You’ll be the person students look to when they need that extra boost to stay on track. Whether it’s in school, at a leisure or sports centre, or during home visits, you’ll be the steady hand that helps guide them.

You’ll work with staff to design and implement a rewards system that keeps students motivated and helps improve school attendance. You’ll be the one behind the scenes, quietly making magic happen, all while helping students see how important education is to their success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be the motivator-in-chief—helping students find their spark in all sorts of settings: school, study groups, sporting activities, and even at home.
  • Collaborate with staff to design a rewards system that keeps students engaged and excited about learning.
  • Take charge of improving school attendance, ensuring we meet or exceed our attendance targets. No one likes missing school, but you'll make it cool to show up!
  • Be the go-to person for students and families, offering a calming presence and support when things get tough.
  • Help students understand the power of education and how it shapes their future journey
