Family Outreach & Engagement Officer job summary
We are looking to strengthen the existing pastoral team with a Families Outreach and Engagement Worker to improve our engagement with families and support attendance and student outcomes. As this is a new role it is for a fixed term of one year in the first instance. This will be reviewed during the course of the year.
This role will be suited to someone who is considering a career in supporting academic and pastoral progress. Full training will be provided so no prior experience is necessary, although this would be advantageous. This is a key role for us and the successful candidate will be at the forefront of working with our students and families.
Your main responsibility will be to build supportive and trusting home-school relationships with families that lead to positive academic and wellbeing outcomes for the young people in our school. The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills which are essential in helping to build trust with the families of some of our most vulnerable students, whilst also clearly communicating the purpose and value of school policies and procedures so that home and school are successfully aligned in the best interests of the young people in our care. The role also includes covering for the Attendance Officer on one day per week.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
Working closely with families of students who are struggling to come into school or experiencing dysregulation or disengagement in school (including those with special educational needs)
Liaising with colleagues in pastoral and academic roles to develop and deliver support plans for students at risk of disengagement or underachievement
Contributing to the design and planning of interventions for students and support for families in liaison with the pastoral, academic, SEND and safeguarding teams
Engaging with families to help them understand the support available for their child, including how their support at home can improve their child’s academic and wellbeing outcomes
Liaising with families to help them better understand how school operates and the ways in which school policies and procedures benefit the entire school community
Meeting with families, or talking by phone, to address any concerns they have about their child’s educational provision and then following up on these concerns with colleagues in school
Support for the wider Student Services team, including the provision of First Aid and covering for the Attendance Officer one day per week (full training provided).
