Finance Officer job summary
Key Responsibilities
As Finance Officer, you will:
Assist the Headteacher in preparing the school’s draft annual budget.
Maintain the school’s financial systems, monitoring and reconciling accounts.
Record school expenditure, process orders and invoices, and prepare balance sheets.
Work with budget holders, providing regular and ad hoc financial reports.
Administer the school’s bank account, ensuring compliance with regulations.
Monitor salary expenditure, process overtime/supply claims, and maintain accurate records.
Ensure the collection, recording, and banking of all school income.
Comply with all financial regulations, VAT, and audit requirements.
Person Specification
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
Essential:
Experience in financial administration.
Proficiency in using IT for financial processes (spreadsheets, databases, Microsoft Office).
Strong organisational, analytical and communication skills.
Ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
Commitment to safeguarding and equal opportunities.
Desirable:
Experience working in a school environment.
Familiarity with financial systems such as Access, Arbor, or similar.
Recognised financial qualification (e.g. AAT) or equivalent.
