What skills and experience we're looking for
North Star Academy Trust is a small multi-academy trust that was set up with the ambition to improve the SEND provision in the South West and provide as many young people as possible with a bespoke, specialist education that is tailored to each individual’s needs. We are a small but growing Trust, currently consisting of four schools and an Outreach team.
We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Finance Manager (Maternity Cover) to join our Central Team. This post will be based at our secondary school, North Star 240°, although it will involve work at the other schools in the Trust on occasion.
The role requires a deep understanding of financial management, budgeting, and accounting principles. You will play a key role in the Trust’s annual cycle of budget setting, production of monthly management accounts, compiling VAT returns, preparing the financial year end, liaising with auditors and assisting with the preparation of the statutory financial statements. The postholder will work closely with the Director of Finance and Operations.
You will act as a key link between the central team and the schools, supporting the Headteachers to make informed decisions in the best interests of their pupils, through the provision of competent financial information, analysis, and insight. You will be required to communicate effectively with various stakeholders, including Headteachers, school staff, external agencies and suppliers of services.
Candidates should hold a minimum of either AAT Level 4 or an accounting degree (or equivalent qualification/experience) with previous accounting experience and be skilled in the use of Microsoft Excel. They will be able to demonstrate the ability to work on their own initiative, assimilate information and communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.
You will be required to work 37 hours per week, all year round. The annual leave for full time all year round staff is 25 days as well as an additional 8 bank/public holidays. This is a one year fixed term position covering maternity leave.
What the school offers its staff
You will be part of:
- An exciting and innovative development of an all-through learning community
- A dedicated team of staff who strive for excellence
- A caring and inclusive ethos
- A Trust which has supportive Trustees and Parents with high expectations
We will interview as applications are received so please submit an early application.
Commitment to safeguarding
North Star Academy Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This appointment is subject to an enhanced DBS check and positive references.
